The Section 2 of Republic Act No. 10533 “Enhance Basic Education Act of 2013” states that every graduate of basic education shall be an empowered individual who has learned, through a program that is rooted on sound educational principles and geared towards excellence, the foundations for learning throughout life, the competence to engage in work and be productive, the ability to coexist in fruitful harmony with local and global communities, the capability to engage in autonomous, creative, and critical thinking, and the capacity and willingness to transform others and one’s self.
Broadening the goals of high school education for college preparation, vocational and technical is also emphasized in the said republic act, thus, having elective subjects in the high school curriculum is not only a compliance but most importantly an advantage for the students in terms of readiness for future education or career.
Additionally, the section 7 of the same republic act stated: “To ensure that the enhance basic education program meets the demand for quality teachers and school leaders, the Dep Ed and the CHED, in collaboration with relevant partners in government, academe, industry, and nongovernmental organizations, shall conduct teacher education and training programs.” With this, teacher training program is a necessity in achieving the prime goal of preparing the students for future higher education and career.
Moreover, the K to 12 Curriculum itself prioritizes the inclusion of research methodology and diverse courses in science, mathematics, and engineering in Senior High School.
With these being said, the Science Department of Dr. Maria D. Pastrana National High School supports teacher training program to increase their competence as teachers in Robotics and to implement the inclusion of the following short courses in the Junior High School:
Grade 7: Research I (scientific attitudes and science process skills)
Grade 8: Research II (nature of research and processes)
Grade 9: Research III (actual investigation/experimentation)
Grade 10: Research IV (development of a new scientific research)

To enhance Science curriculum by offering Robotics as an elective subject and Research I-IV as a core subject.

To have Division Entry Level Entry Level in the upcoming Division Science and Technology Fair and Research Expo.

Robotics I was added to both Grade 9 and Grade 10 as elective subject.

Robotics II was not offered to Grade 10 due to absence of Robotics I last school year.

Research I-IV was successfully implemented in the school year 2021-2022 as part of enhanced science curriculum and as a core subject.

The new set of team members was updated.

Specific content and course outline for each Research (I-IV) was reiterated by the team.

Learning materials and worksheet in Robotics and Research were finalized.

There was no Division Science and Technology Fair during this year.

Pre-implementation
The grade level chief advisers presented the flow and process of intervention to the grade level advisers and subject teachers so that it is clear for everyone the tasks that they need to do or to accomplish. The Chief Advisers also explained to them the importance of the intervention that they are being presented to them.
Implementation
The class advisers and the subject teachers identified their LARDO (Learner’s at Risk of Dropping Out) through their weekly monitoring of the output being submitted by the guardians and parents.
Post-implementation
The data shows that the total enrollment of the school is 4, 518 for SY 2021 – 2022 from Grade 7 students to Grade 12 students. It is also shows that there are 1.44% or 65 students recorded dropped. It implies that the number of dropped out decreased at 1.58% or 30 students from the last school year which means that the intervention made by the teachers are effective.
