The school’s Special Education Program through the initiative of its former Principal, Elmer C. Ravina, was coordinated and planned with EPS Joan Alejaida R. Mauhay and LGU -DSWD Mauban last 2019 and was launched in 2020 during pandemic year. Two devoted general education teachers from English and MAPEH Department, Armida L. Valencia, School’s SPED Coordinator and subject teacher, and Myline V. Impreso, Adviser and subject teacher of SPED accepted and facilitated special education in accordance with DepEd Order 044, s. 2021 known as Policy Guidelines on the Provision of Educational Programs and Services for Learners with Disabilities in the K to 12 Basic Education Program. Despite of the school’s insufficient resources, it pursued its program advocacy and utilized channels to cope with related challenges.

            Dr. Maria D. Pastrana National High School’s reading program known as “BREAD: Build a Reader, Be a Reader,” was designed to a normal educational setting, the face-to-face reading session and tutorial. This year’s school reading program “BREAD” was given a new face due to Covid-19 pandemic.

              Addressing learners’ reading challenges and concerns and developing love and culture of reading are still its major goals. Innovative strategies such as house-to-house reading, designating a place in the barangay which will serve as a reading venue, parent-assisted reading, and online  Brigada pagbasa using online platforms were crafted and designed to continuously respond to the needs of the learners.

At times, teachers are unaware that their strategic technique and their innovative learning tools are what made their students responsive during the day’s lesson. This project intends to help teachers across learning areas to develop localized teaching and learning materials that are originally created to meet the standard of DepEd’s national learning resource portal by providing content to the school’s version of LRMDS, the UNLAD-LR Portal.
